HIghlights
London-based artist Francesca Mollett is now on view at the GRIMM gallery in a new solo exhibition titled Corso. In this second solo show at the gallery, Mollett presents more daring monumental canvases with bold colors, a contrast to the artist’s previous work. The work mirrors the subtlety of Vuillard and semi-recognizable abstraction, but the artist’s maturity and confidence make this a must-see in Tribeca. The show runs through June 22nd.
Right next door to GRIMM is another knockout solo exhibition of Eva Struble in Gravity of Small Things at Jane Lombard Gallery that also runs through June 22nd, 2024. Explosions of color suspend the paintings’ negative space while activating the canvas. The work appears assembled, anchored by still shapes painted onto a more loosely poured and suspended surface. Fabric assemblages of wild, colorful fauna are striking and very different from the painted canvases in the exhibition. A semi-oval assemblage at the front of the gallery is loosely sewn, mirroring the artist’s unique painting style.
Storage Gallery features work by Elizabeth Flood in her debut solo exhibition Lookout now extended through July 15th. Her multi-perspective plein air paintings transcend time as the textures and revised stages of the process juxtapose each other on the surface. The panoramic feel of the entire show is elevated by a raised multi-canvas painting titled Survey, South Nopah Wilderness Range that hangs on a level above the doorway; this particular curatorial choice flaunts the experiential element of the work.
