Artists on Coping: Yura Adams

During the Coronavirus pandemic, Art Spiel is reaching out to artists to learn how they are coping.

Yura Adams is best known for her abstract and energetic paintings that interpret ideas found in physics, injected with messages of cultural and poetic experience. Adams has been exhibited with the New Museum in New York, Experimental Intermedia, Franklin Furnace, New Music America, Real Art Ways, and one person shows at the John Davis Gallery in Hudson, New York. Most recently, Adams received a Pollock-Krasner grant and exhibited at the Hyde Collection, Glens Falls, New York, Collarworks, Troy, New York and produced at Dieu Donné, a large-scale, hand-made paper installation for her one-person show at the Courthouse Gallery in Lake George, New York.

Margaret Ann Withers‘ drawings and paintings burst with energetic gestures, exuberant colors, and bio-morphic shapes. Altogether these elements fuse into imaginative landscapes resembling a child’s play in Surreal terrains.  The artist shares with Art Spiel her ideas, process, and current projects.

Erika Ranee – Wired for Bold

The tension between “inside” and “outside” in Erika Ranee’s paintings draw you into an enclosed space with an explosive and rhythmic internal movement. The vibrant colors, organic shapes, and linear marks that link the forms like veins, altogether resonate with living organisms, body, or microscopic landscapes. The artist shares with Art Spiel what brought her to art, her thought and work processes, as well as her current projects.

Dialogue between Art and Life: suggestion, that is the dream

In response to Arshile Gorky’s colored drawings exhibition, an ARTnewsreviewer back in March 1947 declared that Gorky is in no sense a draftsman and that his drawings “must be appraised as doodlings, for psychological rather than formal interest.” More than sixty years later, an exquisite Gorky drawing from 1946 on loan to Outlet gallery, serves as a starting point for a vibrant dialogue between more than thirty contemporary artists with strong and distinct personal iconography and some shared formal concerns.
