Sue and Al Ravitz have run the project space 57W57ARTS over past eleven years, with a focus on reductive and conceptual art. Located in Al’s psychiatric offices in Midtown Manhattan, they see their gallery as a way to show the art they like, and to create a community. 57W57ARTS has presented the work of close to 200 artists, mounting approximately eight shows per year, each consisting of several one-person exhibitions. This September, a new series began with five one-person shows.

ARCOlisboa 2025 and Lisbon’s Renaissance

Lisbon in May presents itself as both majestic and enigmatic, its urban landscape punctuated by clusters of jacaranda trees in full bloom, casting cascades of purple blossoms across streets and sky like botanical fireworks. The city’s legendary seven hills form a natural amphitheater overlooking the Tagus River, creating an endless choreography of ascent and descent through Escher-like topographies. Glossy marble cobblestones snake through a labyrinth of narrow streets, flanked by stately yet sometimes weathered palaces and residential buildings adorned with brightly colored azulejo tiles that catch and reflect the city’s crystalline light, making the entire urban fabric shimmer.

Art for Your Collection, the upcoming group show at Catherine Fosnot Art Gallery and Center in New London, CT., features paintings and sculptures by 26 artists who were recommended by New York City art critics and curators. Catherine Fosnot, the founder of the gallery who is an artist herself, says that her own experience as an isolated artist during the pandemic has been an impetus for opening this art gallery as a hub for art discourse and art collection outside large metropolitan centers. The exhibition opens November 12^th and runs through December 30^th, 2020. Catherine Fosnot shares the genesis of her new gallery, her vision, and how this show evolved.
