SUMMARY:Self-Made: A Century of Inventing Artists at American Folk Art Museum
DESCRIPTION:American Folk Art MuseumSelf-Made: A Century of Inventing Artists2 Lincoln Square\, New York\, NYApril 10 – September 13\, 2026. Wed – Sun\, 11:30 am to 6 pm \n“Self-Made: A Century of Inventing Artists” takes a critical look at the historical definition of the self-taught artist in the United States from the early twentieth century to today. The sixty artists featured largely worked outside conventional art-school\, gallery\, museum\, and peer-exchange systems. Their practices are rooted in diverse sites of learning\, from professional expertise to community-based traditions. Drawn primarily from the museum’s collection\, the exhibition brings together paintings\, sculptures\, photographs\, videos\, and artists’ notebooks by key national and international figures\, including many recent or rarely seen acquisitions.

SUMMARY:Transcendence FOU Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Transcendence\, FOU Gallery\, 89 Fifth Ave.\, Suite 701\, New York\, NY 10003. On view through September 5\, 2026\, Tuesday–Saturday\, 11 AM–6 PM. \n“Through the body\, the imagined organism\, and the reconstructed garden\, form becomes a threshold through which inner energy\, memory\, and spiritual perception may appear. Rather than presenting transcendence as escape\, the exhibition understands it as a process of attunement\, a way of sensing what exists beneath the visible. Installed as a quiet and immersive environment\, Transcendence invites viewers to move through the works as they might move through a breath cycle\, a dream\, or a moment of meditation\, entering a space where the visible world opens onto its unseen dimensions. In this suspended space\, transcendence becomes a quiet practice of returning to the energies that bind the self to the world.” \nEssay by Helena Jin\, edited by Iris Zhang.

SUMMARY:Yvonne Jacquette's "From the Air" at KARMA
DESCRIPTION:Yvonne Jacquette\, From the Air\, at Karma\, 549 West 26th Street\, New York.\nSeptember 3–October 31\, 2026\nOpening reception Thursday\, September 10\, 6–8 pm \nFor over five decades\, Yvonne Jacquette (1934–2023) observed the world from above\, rendering clouds\, cities\, and cultivated fields as interlocking patterns of line and color. Karma’s first Jacquette solo exhibition\, From the Air\, brings together paintings and works on paper made between 1971 and 2019\, tracing how she developed the aerial perspective as both subject and method. Whether looking down on Manhattan or Maine\, Jacquette remained absorbed in the act of seeing\, treating distance as her way of relating to the world below. \nFor more\, visit karmakarma.org

SUMMARY:Pierre Knop's "Le Sacre Du Printemps" at Yossi Milo
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception: Thursday\, September 10\, 6-8 PM\nSeptember 3 – October 17\, 2026 \n“Yossi Milo is pleased to present Le Sacre Du Printemps\, an exhibition of new paintings by Pierre Knop (b. 1982\, Nancy\, France). For his third solo exhibition with the gallery\, Knop turns his attention entirely to landscapes\, deepening his engagement within a practice that has long moved between observation\, memory\, and invention. “My paintings don’t depict an external reality\, but rather an inner one\,” he explains. Drawing from photographs\, lived experience\, and art historical references\, Knop develops compositions through an ongoing dialogue between material\, gesture\, and perception\, allowing each painting to arrive at its own internal logic.” \nFor more\, visit https://yossimilo.com/
